VidyaOnline: Design and Development of a FOSS based Virtual Learning Environment on Library and Information Science at Vidyasagar University, West Bengal

VidyaOnline, the prototype web-based modular and interactive learning system, is aimed to produce a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) for library and information science courses. In its final contour, VidyaOnline will be acted as a generic e learning platform for courses offered by the Directorate of Distance Education (DDE), Vidyasagar University. As we know, learning system that supports VLE features (as prescribed by INSPIRAL project), is not restricted to distance education alone, VidyaOnline will have all the facilities to support off-campus learning and evaluation activities related to traditional courses of Vidyasagar University. In short, VidyaOnline will be emerging as a web integrated hybrid e learning system for library and information science courses as well as for other distance and traditional courses of Vidyasagar University. The structure of VidyaOnline extends support for all three forms of VLE – web-based training, supported online learning and informal e learning. The software architecture of VidyaOnline is completely based on FOSS (Free and Open Source Software). It uses LAMP (Linux-Apache-MySQL-PHP) architecture, Moodle course management system and GD graphics library to design and develop an interactive web-integrated e learning platform to accommodate library and information science courses along with other distance education programmes of DDE, Vidyasagar University. VidyaOnline is completely compatible with Unicode and one courseware is available in Unicode-based Bengali language interface

Community Information Services through Web and CDROM: An Open Source Framework for Public Libraries in India

Produkcija peterostrukih Higgsovih bozona tripletnog Higgsova modela u Z0 – raspadu

This paper envisages the nature of production of the 5-plet Higgs bosons of the Higgs triplet model (with ϱ = 1) of electroweak interactions in Z 0 -decays assuming the masses of these Higgs bosons to be such that their production are kinematically admissible in these decays. It has been pointed out that in these decays production modes involving a single Higgs boson may occur uninhibited, whereas the ones composed of two Higgs bosons must exhibit model-independent suppressions. Accordingly, the former modes will be more suitable than the latter ones for unveiling the signatures of the Higgs bosons as highlighted in this paper.Razmotrena je priroda tvorbe peterostrukih Higgsovih bozona u okviru tripletnog Higgsova modela (sa ϱ = 1) elektroslabog medudjelovanja u Z0 – raspadu, uz pretpostavku da mase proizvedenih Higgsovih bozona zadovoljavaju kinematičke uvjete raspada. Full-text ETD retrieval in library discovery system: designing a framework

This paper discusses designing an open source software based library discovery system for full-text ETD retrieval on the basis of a cataloguing framework developed by using available global standards and best practices in the domain of theses cataloguing. The purpose of this prototype framework is to provide a single-window search and retrieval system for end users for discovering ETD at metadata level and at full-text level. The prototype framework is based on three-layer architecture with Koha ILS as backend metadata provider, Apache-Tika as full-text extractor and VuFind as discovery system. A MARC-21 bibliographic format, especially designed to handle TDs, is working as data handler mechanism in Koha ILS and the harvester of VuFind is tuned to fetch bibliographic data related to ETD in marcxml format. The user interface of VuFind is also configured to support accessing ETDs from global-scale services like NDLTD, OATD, IndCat, ShodhGanga etc. apart from the local level ETD collection in order to provide an all-in-one search interface for users

Information mashup through application of Web 2.0 tools: services and procedures

In this study technical knowhow of implementation of the Web 2.0 services in OPAC using AddThis, an open source platform, has been discussed. The study has also tried to identify the services that are being provided by the top 10 central libraries of global, national (India), Asian as well as the state (West Bengal) universities using information mashup technology and makes a comparison of the same between the university libraries

Webometric Analysis of Central Universities in India: A Study

Web presence of Indian Universities has been reflected in general and Central Universities in particular. Webometric data have been collected through Yahoo! and Google search engines using special query syntax. An attempt has been made to rank Central Universities in India using appropriate webometric indicators. Results reveled that University of Delhi becomes top rank (with score 4.28 and Sikkim University occupied the last (with score 1.64) among Central Universities in India
